Salahalden (Salah) Sharaf aged 25, a refugee from Sudan was referred by the Job Centre to our REP service. Facing homelessness and the uncertainty of where he would sleep each night, he was struggling and mentally broken.
He wanted to attend ESOL classes and look for employment but was finding this difficult without an address. After receiving some assistance from a friend Salah found a compassionate English family who agreed to host him for a few days and keep him off the streets.
After contacting Lyz Stepanishyna, his REP Case Manager, for housing and employment advice, Lyz created a step-by-step plan to help Salah find housing and employment. She suggested that Salah apply for supported housing, helped him with his application and ensured he attended the interview. Just three days after the interview, Salah was handed the keys to his new residence, marking the end of his prolonged period of homelessness.
With the continued support of Lyz, Salah has now enrolled on one of our ESOL courses and is actively looking for employment.
“The first night I stayed at my new home, I was so happy, I have not had a home for a very long time. I am so pleased I have a warm and comfortable place to stay, thank you very much.”
