Catalin Nita is a 46-year-old Romanian man. He had been unemployed for about two years after being made redundant from his previous job. Catalin joined the Restart programme in April 2022, and our team recognised that he faced numerous obstacles, including homelessness and a low level of English, that were preventing him from finding a new and sustainable job.
Catalin was having a difficult time and had given up hope. Because he did not speak English, our advisor had to communicate with him through an interpreter.
After a few weeks, a new advisor, Robert, joined Get Set UK, and because he spoke Romanian, everything became much easier for both our team and the candidate. It was like a light at the end of a long tunnel, and we were overjoyed because we could help Catalin much more efficiently. Our expert spoke to Catalin in his native language while also translating the action plan into Romanian so the candidate understood what they needed to do.
We could see the candidate’s confidence growing, and he felt we were doing everything we could to help him. Our team of experts assisted the candidate in creating his CV, explaining what he needed to do to be successful in a job interview, and inviting him to a few workshops. Our Employment Advisor met with him several times outside of his scheduled appointments because Catalin required additional assistance, particularly with the UK Visas and Immigration Department, to obtain his working documents.
The participant began applying for a few roles, and with the help of our advisor and his JobCentre Plus work coach, he was employed as a room attendant at Travelodge in June 2022.
Catalin’s story impressed everyone at our Cowen House office in Southwark. He was a completely different person when he came into the office after his first day with Travelodge and we finally saw a smile on his face. He expressed his happiness and gratitude for the assistance provided by Robert and the entire office through the Restart programme.
Catalin has only been working for Travelodge for a few weeks. He expressed his gratitude for the assistance we provided him in starting a new life and overcoming the obstacles that were preventing him from finding a new job. Our team will continue to monitor Catalin’s progress and see if he requires any additional support.
