Ismail is a 37-year-old Afghan man who joined the Restart Programme in January 2022. Ismail and his family arrived in the UK as part of the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme. They were staying in a Crawley Hotel and did not have permanent residency in the United Kingdom. Among other issues, Ismail was struggling with English and had lost some confidence as a result of being in a new and unfamiliar environment.
Our Employment Advisor Matteo from our Crawley office recognised that the first step was to help the participant gain confidence in himself and understand the opportunities available in the UK. We began by assisting him in developing a CV and cover letter, and then we explained how to search for and apply for job vacancies. Ismail had never heard of a job search website, so he needed a lot of help in the beginning. We invited the candidate to attend various workshops because he was eager to learn new things and find a new job. We also assisted him in applying for various vacancies, but he was unsuccessful because he struggled during the interview stage. Our expert then decided to devote more time to assisting the customer in improving his interview skills and practising with mock interviews. Our team also assisted Ismail in improving his English language skills so that he could look for a new job more easily and perform better during his interviews.
Ismail recently began working for KFC in Crawley, which is close to the hotel where he and his family live. He is currently working part-time but would like to go full-time once he is more comfortable in his role.
Ismail has stated that he is satisfied with his current position, but his long-term goal is to return to working in security, as he did in Afghanistan. Our team will continue to support Ismail and assist him in finding new opportunities in the security industry in the future.
