Work and Health Programme - CLW | 09 June 2025
After more than five years out of work, Billy Sheilds joined the Work & Health Programme Central London Works. Looking for support after years out of work, Billy had been a full-time carer for a family member and was struggling with his mental health as well as overcoming substance abuse.
Upon joining the programme, Billy met Brenda Joseph, his Get Set UK Employment Advisor. He opened up about the barriers he felt were preventing him from finding employment and the steps he was taking towards recovery. With Brenda’s support, they built a plan to help Billy move forward, recognising that acknowledging his mental health issues and substance abuse was the first step to recovery and with the right support, he could overcome these barriers and find a job that was right for him.
Through the programme, Brenda enrolled Billy on several training courses, where he gained his SIA badge and obtained accredited certificates in CCTV Monitoring, Door Supervision and Spectator Safety courses, becoming certified as a Security Guard. With Brenda’s guidance and Billy’s drive, he’s now proud to be in his first full-time role with OCS as a Security Guard.
The Work and Health Programme – Central London Works, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and delivered by Get Set UK on behalf of partners Ingeus, supports people who are managing a long-term health condition, a disability or who have been unemployed for over two years with employment with health and wellbeing support tailored to meet their personal needs and circumstances.
