Leading by example in workplace wellbeing.
Active Suffolk, a non-profit organisation within the East Suffolk Council division, has long championed physical activity and community wellbeing. As an early Steering Group member working with Suffolk County Council to shape the Good Health @Work programme, they enrolled in the programme themselves, demonstrating a clear commitment to practising what they promote, showcasing that even organisations already doing great work can continue to learn, improve, and lead by example.
Despite already having a strong internal culture, the team saw value in formalising their approach and measuring it against recognised wellbeing standards. By joining the GH@W programme, they committed to reviewing and improving practices across multiple areas, from mental health and workplace culture to sustainability and inclusion.
Embedding wellbeing through action and insight.
With tailored guidance from GH@W Advisor Laura Graham-Clarke, Active Suffolk worked through the programme’s structured framework to meet the criteria for both Bronze and Silver Awards. This involved completing several key standards, covering staff engagement, physical and mental health, policy development, and environmental impact.
The programme supported Active Suffolk to:
✔ Build on existing strengths and formalise internal wellbeing policies
✔ Identify areas for growth and take proactive steps to address them
✔ Complete the full criteria for both Bronze and Silver Award recognition
✔ Champion the GH@W programme and set their sights on Gold Award status
This success reflects Active Suffolk’s ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, not just in principle, but in practice.
The Good Health @Work programme helps SMEs across Suffolk embed meaningful workplace wellbeing practices. Funded by Suffolk County Council and delivered by Get Set UK, the award framework supports employers to build happier, healthier teams while working towards Bronze, Silver and Gold Award recognition.
