What was Jamie’s situation?

Jamie Singleton, aged 25, has autism and learning difficulties and was referred to the Get Set for Work programme to help him overcome the obstacles he was facing whilst looking for employment, including challenges related to CV prep, interviews, and adapting to new work environments.

How did Get Set UK help?

Jamie’s Family Consultant, Laura Clarke, addressed these employment barriers and created a structured 12-week direct intervention that provided Jamie with regular engagement and a diverse range of activities. This allowed Jamie to break down his barriers and enabled him to recognise and appreciate his strengths and capabilities.

Jamie secured a voluntary role at a historical fort in his town, a place he felt comfortable and confident in. This placement was a pivotal point in his personal journey and professional development. Jamie excelled in his voluntary role and this helped boost his confidence in looking for a job. At the end of the 12-week intervention, Laura continued to work with Jamie, signposting him for additional support with job searching with our partner ECL Person-centred Care.

Jamie’s Father commented: “Laura has been helping my son, Jamie look for work/a voluntary positions, write his CV, and prepare him for a work environment. Laura understood Jamie’s needs and how his learning difficulties were impacting his ability to integrate into a workplace. I am very pleased with how she has supported him”.
