A new path towards a brighter future overcoming employment barriers.
Central London Works | 6 March 2024
The participant was referred to the Work and Health – Central London Works programme that we deliver on behalf of our partner Ingeus, as they were struggling to find employment due to language barriers and past trauma. The participant found that this was significantly affecting their mental health and confidence levels.
Mouna Chahoub, Employment Advisor, noticed that they were hesitant and reserved about the support Get Set UK could provide them. Mouna assured them that the Work and Health Programme could be viewed as a new beginning that allowed them time to focus on themselves.
To help the participant overcome their language barrier, Mouna enrolled them in an ESOL course, delivered by our skills and training arm, TheLightBulb. The course allowed them to develop their reading, writing, and speaking skills. Mouna also helped the participant create a CV that focused on her skills.
Mouna supported the participant by exploring counselling courses and potential volunteer opportunities in the mental health sector, a career path the participant wanted to explore. Mouna additionally facilitated a referral to Smart Works Charity, where they would receive career coaching and valuable connections to organisations that specialise in mental health support.
The progress from the initial appointment to the present is truly impressive. The participant now radiates confidence, expressing their thoughts with greater freedom and communicating themselves more effectively. Mouna Chaboub, Employment Advisor, commented: “Witnessing their growth fills me with pride, and I am excited to continue supporting their journey towards achieving their goals.”
