Komal’s success story.

After years as a homemaker, Komal Kashif, aged 39 was ready to return to work but didn’t know where to start. Living with carpel tunnel, a physical health condition that affects her hands, she often found day-to-day tasks challenging, and her confidence had taken a knock. As a single parent, she also faced the added pressure of finding work that could fit around her family responsibilities. 

Referred by Redbridge Jobcentre Plus to the Local London Work and Health Programme Pioneer that Get Set UK deliver on behalf of Maximus, Komal began receiving specialist one-to-one support from her Get Set UK Employment Specialist, Jennifer Davies. Together, they focused on building Komal’s confidence and helping her explore new opportunities that matched her skills and circumstances. 

Jennifer supported Komal to create a CV, attend regular job search sessions, and access training to build her employability. Initially, Komal wanted to work in a school as a midday assistant or teaching assistant, but a broken arm and unsuccessful course assessment left her disheartened.  

Following feedback to improve her digital skills Jennifer’s supported Komal to enrol on a digital skills course at Redbridge College where she successfully completed her Level 1 training and is now preparing to start Level 2. Jennifer also discussed alternative routes into employment with Komal that would still suit her need for flexibility. 

Komal discovered an interest in the events and security sector so Jennifer enrolled her on Level 2 Spectator Training which she could complete whilst also volunteering as an Events Steward with APA Ltd. When her training is complete, Komel is looking forward to starting work and has ambitions to explore SIA (Security Industry Authority) training next.  

With the support of Jennfier through the Local London Work and Health Programme Pioneer, Komal feels happier, more confident, and finally on a clear path towards meaningful employment. Find out more about the programme here
