Julius’s success story.

When Julius Sukai, aged 20 joined our Skills for Work programme, funded by the Adult Skills Fund (ASF), he had been unemployed for over a year. His confidence was low, he felt unsure of his future and overwhelmed by the number of career choices in front of him.

Discussing his opportunities with his employment advisor, he enrolled on 7-day CSCS Construction course at our Camberwell office, but was hesitant as he “wanted a job, not just another course”.

Course Tutor Mark Phoenix (Published Author) rang Julius the day before the course started where Julian confessed, he was contemplating not attending. Mark explained that Skills for Work courses are about more than gaining skills and qualifications, they’re about inspiring and motivating people to move forward.

During the course, Julius’ mindset completely shifted. He learned about the construction industry, explored different roles, and began to see a clear path forward. By the end of the week, Julius was no longer just interested in finding work, he was committed to building a career and looking to approach Balfour Beatty for a role as a site operative.
