Creating Inclusive Workplaces: Get Set for Work & Colchester City Council.
Get Set for Work | 05 August 2025
At Get Set UK, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to work in an environment that values and celebrates diversity. Through our Get Set for Work programme, delivered on behalf of Essex County Council, we work with employers to build confidence, break down barriers and create inclusive working environments.
We partnered with Colchester City Council to deliver a bespoke face-to-face training session focused on Unconscious Bias and Neurodiversity in the Workplace. The session aimed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical tools needed to recognise and challenge unconscious bias, understand the strengths and challenges of neurodivergent colleagues, and implement workplace adjustments that support equality of opportunity.
Over 50 employees attended the training, which was delivered by our experienced trainers, Amy McManus and Sally Howell. The session was highly interactive, encouraging open discussion and reflection, and inspiring participants to commit to positive change within their teams and wider organisation.
The session covered:
– Understanding unconscious bias and its impact on workplace decisions.
– Identifying the strengths and challenges of neurodivergent employees.
– Implementing practical adjustments to improve inclusivity.
– Encouraging an open dialogue on neurodiversity.
The impact of the training was immediate and powerful. Feedback from attendees gave the session an overall recommendation score of 9 out of 10, reflecting just how valuable and relevant they found the content. One attendee shared:
“It was a brilliant session run by Amy and Sally from Get Set UK. We had over 50 people join in total, which was a great turnout. They were both engaging and informative.” – Colchester City Council.
For Amy, delivering this session was an inspiring experience:
“Being given the opportunity to deliver neurodiversity training to Colchester City Council really solidified for me their commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. The engagement from staff, the thoughtful questions, and their genuine drive to implement meaningful change were inspiring. It’s fantastic to see organisations taking proactive steps to ensure everyone, regardless of neurotype, can succeed at work.” – Amy McManus, Get Set UK.
This training demonstrates how Get Set UK and the Get Set for Work programme are supporting employers to become more inclusive and confident in their approach to neurodiversity, ultimately helping to create more equitable career opportunities for neurodivergent individuals.
