At Get Set UK, we know that providing opportunity goes beyond hiring. It’s about building workplaces where everyone, including disabled people and those with long-term health conditions, can feel supported, included, and able to thrive.
Objective IT, a growing SME in the tech sector, came to Get Set for Work programme delivered by Get Set UK on behalf of Essex County Council, looking for support and guidance to become a Disability Confident Leader, the highest level of the Disability Confident Scheme.
When they came to us, they hadn’t yet joined the Disability Confident Scheme, but they were eager to demonstrate their commitment to recruiting disabled people and supporting them in the workplace. They wanted to open their recruitment to a wider, more diverse talent pool, particularly neurodivergent individuals and those with invisible disabilities who are often excluded from traditional processes.
Amy McManus, Get Set UK Employer Consultant and Objective IT, worked together to:
✔️ Review their recruitment materials and interview process through an EDI and neuroinclusion lens
✔️ Discussed practical adjustments and flexible working options
✔️ Make inclusive changes to their recruitment, onboarding, and staff development processes
✔️ Complete all the requirements for Tier 1, 2 and 3 of the Disability Confident Scheme.
What made this journey so successful was the team’s genuine commitment, they didn’t want to tick boxes, they wanted to embed inclusion into everything they do. Objective IT were successfully awarded Disability Confident Leader status, a recognition of the commitment they’ve shown to becoming an inclusive employer But the real success is the culture shift: a workplace where disabled applicants feel safe applying, existing team members feel valued, and managers feel confident leading inclusively.
Amy McManus, Get Set UK Employer Consultant, commented: “Working with Objective IT throughout all three tiers of the Disability Confident Scheme has been an absolute pleasure. From the start, it was clear they genuinely cared about creating a workplace where disabled people feel supported. They’ve embraced the principles wholeheartedly and gone above and beyond to make meaningful, lasting changes. Objective IT haven’t just met the standard – they’ve set one.”
