We recently assisted an experienced professional who had lost his job and was dealing with both financial and mental issues.

What was their situation?
This participant was a very experienced professional with an impressive background in very high positions such as national development director for a large sofa department, general manager for a kitchen appliance company, and many other managerial positions for various companies. He had been placed on the Restart programme after losing his previous job due to the pandemic.
The candidate had lost all confidence and hope because he believed his main barrier was his age. Despite his extensive experience in senior positions, he received no responses or was told by employers that he is overqualified. He was particularly worried because he had to pay £700 per month for his child and therefore needed a well-paying job to cover all of his expenses.
How did Get Set UK help?
After joining the programme, the candidate began working with his Employment Advisor to plan activities to assist him in finding a new job. His confidence, however, was extremely low due to the low response rate and his age. Our expert invited the candidate to participate in some relevant workshops in order to boost his confidence and understand how he could change and adapt his CV to the various vacancies. He received excellent help and support from Fedcap experts, but he was still not successful. Our team was always trying to inspire him and help him maintain his optimism by explaining to him that he was not alone in his position and age and that it was not his fault because he had some incredible skills and experiences to offer.
After a long and complex search, the participant was hired as an area manager with a starting salary of £65,000 per year. He is now in a very good financial and mental position. Prior to finding this job, he had reached a point of desperation and was considering selling his car to pay off his credit card debts and child support. We are pleased to report that he is now able to pay his debts and enjoy life again.
The candidate has praised our employment advisor numerous times for all of his additional help, especially when he was feeling very low and had lost hope. He believes that Get Set UK and the Restart Scheme gave him the opportunity to rebuild his career and his life.
