What was Michelle’s situation?
This participant is a 45-year-old man from London who joined the Restart Scheme in March 2022 after being out of work for about two years.He used to be a journalist, but for a variety of reasons, he had difficulty finding a new job. He attended several workshops, applied for various positions, and had numerous interviews with no success. That is why he required more qualified and professional advice.
How did Get Set UK help?
When he first visited our Camberwell office, he met with his Employment Advisor Michelle, and discussed the assistance that Get Set UK could provide him. When our colleague spoke with the participant, she realised that he had lost confidence and was concerned that his two-year gap from work would be a major barrier to finding new, sustainable employment.
The participant was then invited to our workshops, where he was always encouraged to believe in himself and his abilities. At the same time, we assisted him with his CV and taught him how to look for jobs in the hidden market. The client gradually gained confidence and demonstrated patience and incredible determination, thanks to the encouragement of his Employment Advisor, who was always available to help him.
After several months of intense learning and developing new skills, the participant decided to apply for an administrative officer position with a company with which he had done some volunteer work. He went to the interview and was successful. He started his new job on 22nd January 2023, working part-time from 10 am to 2 pm We are continuing to assist him by providing vouchers for clothing and food, as well as paying his weekly travel costs.
The participant has expressed numerous times his gratitude to Get Set UK and, in particular, his Employment advisor, Michelle. He thanked her for shifting his perspective from being unemployed to believing he was now successful and able to support his family better.
