Practitioner.

Early Years Practitioners support the care and education of children aged 0–5. They create safe, nurturing environments, follow safeguarding practices, and promote children’s development through play and learning activities under the guidance of qualified early years staff.

Duration: Up to 12 months + 3 month assessment period

What Skills Will I Gain?

As an apprentice, you’ll develop your skills through a mix of online workshops and personalised one-to-one support with a Get Set UK Learning Development Mentor and specialist trainers, covering:

  • The roles and responsibilities of an Early Years Practitioner, from supporting young children’s learning and routines to creating a safe, fun, and caring environment.

  • Understanding the key stages of child development and how to support children as they learn new skills and build confidence.

  • How to recognise signs that a child may be at risk, understanding your responsibilities, and know what steps to take if you have concerns.

  • The importance of holistic development of speech, language and communication, through play, stories, and everyday conversation.

  • Understanding the legal requirements in childcare, including the Health and Safety act.

What to Expect from
Your Employer.

Your employer must give you the chance to regularly put your learning into practice to help you build real workplace experience and develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours you need to complete your Apprenticeship.

You will be supported with:

  • Working with children aged 0-5, giving them a well-rounded understanding of Early Years care across different age ranges.

  • Being paired with a dedicated mentor to help you grow in confidence and develop your skills.

  • Taking time away from daily tasks to attend off-the-job training, including monthly workshops and one-to-one support meetings.

  • Attending regular progress meetings with your trainer and employer.

Completing Your Apprenticeship.

Every Apprenticeship ends with an End Point Assessment (EPA). This is your chance to show everything you’ve learned, the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you’ve built throughout your training. The EPA is carried out by an independent assessor and may include practical tasks, written tests, or an interview, depending on your Apprenticeship. Successfully passing your EPA proves your competence and earns you a recognised qualification, setting you up for the next stage in your career.
