Local London Work and Health Programme boosts Shaban’s employability skills.
Work and Health Programme | 15 December 2023
Shabana Bashir came into our Walthamstow office looking for support in finding suitable employment. Jennifer Davis, her Employment Advisor, was able to support Shabana through the Local London Work and Health Programme that we run in partnership with Maximus.
The programme offers tailored support in employment, health, and well-being to individuals facing various challenges in East and South East London.
Shabana was struggling with her mental health and discussed with Jennifer that this was affecting her confidence and self-belief when applying for jobs. Shabana had previous experience in retail but wanted to retrain and look for a job which worked around her childcare. Jennifer suggested she join the Skills for Work Teaching Assistants course delivered by our skills and training division TheLightBulb. This would enable her to retrain in a different sector and be a great opportunity for Shabana to build up her confidence.
At the start of the course, Shabana struggled with her anxiety and wasn’t sure if she could complete the course. With the help and support of her course tutor Nancy Hodges and Jennifer, her anxiety eased and as she interacted with the other course learners her confidence started to grow. Upon completion of the course, Shabana felt more confident and with encouragement applied for a job. After a successful job interview, Shabana starts her new job in January!
