What was their situation?
This participant was a dedicated and reliable kitchen assistant with many years of experience in the hospitality industry. Initially, he was concerned about securing long-term employment because he believed one of his biggest barriers was his age and the potential discrimination that could arise, following a series of negative experiences in the search for work.
How did Get Set UK help?
During one of our workshops, our colleague Lawrence met the client and discussed some of his work-related obstacles, barriers, and experiences, which had left him lacking motivation and confidence. He wanted to stop looking for work because his previous experiences had been demoralising. Our Employment Advisor presented him with a number of job vacancies for kitchen assistants with The Compass Group. The client appeared reluctant at first, but he believed he needed a change in his life. He promised to do his best to overcome his previous negative experiences.
We assisted the client by providing all the documentation and information about the selection process and the interview, but we also helped him understand that he possessed excellent skills and experience that qualified him for the roles.
The client was nervous on the day of the interview, but he was able to secure employment after a successful interview. He was required to take part in a trial. His employer decided to hire him after being impressed by his passion, work ethic, speed, and communication.
The client is currently working and is very happy in his new position, and he has finally forgotten about his previous negative experiences and concerns about his age. He expressed gratitude to the advisor for the encouragement and motivation he received throughout the programme.
