A young mother of two children had been unemployed for four years, but she now has a stable job thanks to our help and support.

What was their situation?
The participant had been out of work since 2018, after being laid off from her previous job. When she joined the Restart Scheme in January 2022, she stated that she was looking for a part-time employment because she had two children and needed to work around nursery or school hours. Her preference was to work in the retail or education sectors, where she believed she could progress in different roles.
When our colleague Ayisha first met the participant, she realised that there were many obstacles preventing the participant from finding work to support her two children.
How did Get Set UK help?
Our Employment Advisor started by assisting her in completing all of the necessary paperwork to apply for her right to work documentation and passport, as she lacked both. They then started working on her CV and cover letter, and our team showed her how to search for and apply for job opportunities. She also attended some interview preparation classes with our trainer, Gifty, and she really appreciated the sessions as well as the tips and advice she could use in the future. With the assistance and guidance of our expert Ayisha, she began applying for various positions that she was interested in, and she eventually found a job with Iceland.
The participant found a job that works well for her because she will still have time to care for her children when they are not in school. She hopes to gain some experience and certification so that she can work as a TA in Special Needs Schools. She will do research on the qualification she needs in order to save money for it. Her next step will be to start driving lessons, and she hopes to get her licence next year.
The participant expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by her Employment Advisor Ayisha and the team in Crawley since she joined the Restart Scheme in January of this year, and she is confident that the skills she gained during these months will be very useful in her future career development.
