Job Purpose

We are seeking a Disability Employer Specialist who will play a vital role in supporting employers with business advice and guidance to recruit, engage, and sustain adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals in employment.

In line with our overarching mission of empowering individuals to make positive changes in their lives, you’ll be responsible for managing of individuals, aiding them in overcoming barriers to secure and sustain gainful employment. Utilizing the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, you will deliver bespoke advice and forge strategic partnerships with local businesses, facilitating a smooth transition into meaningful employment. Your role will be instrumental in advocating for improved health and well-being, embedding yourself within primary care, community teams, and the broader network.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in EDI and HR, with a passion for supporting employers in creating inclusive and disability-friendly environments. A Level 3 Supported Employment Practitioner qualification or a willingness to work towards it is essential, alongside a background in working with adults with disabilities or advising employers on inclusion practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role involves empowering clients with personalized, practical support tailored to their employment aspirations. This includes conducting organizational needs assessments and identifying best working practices for adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals.
  • Collaborating with partners, to organize workshops for employers that focus on integrating employees effectively.
  • Delivering workshops for community employers to enhance their understanding of hiring and working with special needs adults, including Access to Work, Reasonable Adjustments, and the Disability Confident Employer Award.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with employers by offering constant business support and guidance to optimize internal processes for integrating staff with disabilities.
  • Working closely with employers to identify, structure, and recommend recruitment and training solutions to meet specific needs, including job carving/creation, offering intervention measures, providing advice on inclusive recruitment practices, and exploring options to increase skills and confidence.
  • Additionally, the role involves improving attitudes towards people with disabilities, championing inclusion, providing advice on legislation, raising aspirations for employees with disabilities, promoting good practice examples, ensuring awareness of communication needs, offering constructive feedback to improve processes, and delivering high-quality service in line with Get Set UK’s values and operational principles.
